The Idea

In the fall of 2006, Bluefield College and the Town of Bluefield, Virginia, began collaborative discussions about a proposed recreational facility for students and the community at-large. Both having significant needs for additional recreational, fitness and activity space, the two parties agreed to explore the possibility of developing a structure that would mutually serve the citizens of Bluefield and the students of Bluefield College.
With approval from Town Council and the BC Board of Trustees, we have set out to accomplish collectively what they could not accomplished alone and have begun an historic private-public cooperative to build a new “Campus and Community Center.”

The Vision

Designed by the award-winning architects from Thompson and Litton in Tazewell, Virginia, the new Campus and Community Center, a $14 million structure, will sit on the Bluefield College campus, on the corner portion of land where the BC Dome currently resides, just east of Rish (residence) Hall.
Said to be by designers a “state-of-the-art building” with “nothing comparable to it in the area,” the facility will be a total 82,000 square feet and will serve the recreational, fitness and activity interests of Bluefield College students, faculty, staff and alumni, as well as the Bluefield community at-large, from youth to senior citizens.

The Opportunity

Realizing the Campus and Community Center is indeed an ambitious project at $14 million, the college and the town will turn to foundations and firms, businesses and believers, friends and alumni from near and far to see the construction through to completion.
With fundraising for the project officially underway, we invite you to be a part of this historic cooperative. Just like the men and women who in 1919 supported the idea that a Christian college could and should be created in Bluefield, Virginia, you can contribute to the realization of a vision like none other before for Bluefield College and the Bluefield community.
Naming possibilities for the entire building, as well as portions of the facility are available. To learn more about the Campus and Community Center and how you can be a part of this ambitious venture, call 276-326-4208 or visit the Bluefield College web site at
